MeMoirs XX
is a creative collective of people born during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020. As far as lockdowns continue, we continue. We simply started with collecting memories through dance, sound, and writing. We do not know where we are heading, but we know we are heading towards that unknown together.

It all started with a facebook group on 10 April 2020 through which we collected creative material (recordings of individual movements or sounds, pieces of text).

The creative process followed:

• Jaro Viňarský put the movement contributions into short motion sequences, which were being published weekly in an instructional video so that anyone could learn them and repeat them at any time; we also offered regular online live movement classes with Jaro;
• Lukáš Kubičina was processing the audio contributions to create music tracks that accompanied our collective choreographies;
• Jakub Turčan worked out a way to play with the literary work that came out of the textual contributions.

After five weeks of collecting the material, reflecting the then actual situation of restrictions release, we decided to take the whole project further and started meeting regularly on zoom to create together. The outcome of these so called Liberation sessions was presented in a form of two-day-long presence of MeMoirs XX at Krepí festival in Záhrada - CNK, Banská Bystrica at the end of the summer 2020.

The MeMoirs XX group keeps meeting online to share the isolation moments, exchange experience, and create.

The aim of the MeMoirs XX project is a creation of a collective work of art, a sort of a living memorial of this strange Corona Virus pandemic period we are experiencing.
The artwork is being created within the span of the obligatory confinement and special measures taken. It will become a collection of our actual experience and memories. This living memorial will be publically presented at Záhrada cultural centre premises within the initial days after. It will be on a day we will be able to return to normal functioning, the day we will be able to meet again in person celebrate art, culture, and life. This sort of day certainly deserves a celebration! The current situation – living with Corona Virus / next to Corona Virus – will be imprinted forever and strongly in our memories as an event that has influenced the ways the society runs and has forced us to change our professional as well as personal life. It has unveiled the hidden and brought the new. So let's create a living memorial that will reflect this period!
The living memorial called MeMoirs XX will get a form of a collective choreography, a musical track, and a text. We will be creating these memoirs by gradually adding new movements, sounds, and words. We cannot even assume the entire length of the process of the artwork creation...
Each week, we will release a short piece of choreography and music which will be created from your own recordings of movements, sounds, or words. We will also publish the text that will be compiled from your textual posts.
We will be continuously learning the choreography so that we could meet on a specific “day after” and dance together in a festive – almost ritualistic way to mark the end of the pandemic and a new (careful) start. The choreography will be accompanied by a musical track combinig various sounds, recordings, layers, and clumps.
