Body as a metaphor of the Earth

The online weekend workshop concluded by a personal performative experience exploring the human body through the prism of the body of the Earth, its formations, and transformations.

We were visiting different layers, exploring states, forces, and possibilities for movement, all inspired by the internal movements of the Earth, its constitutive elements, and the way they have come to be. It was also an invitation to explore personal (hi)stories and stories which made us into who we are today. And first of all, this work was an invitation to connect with one’s own body, an invitation to move and to create.
We were working with guided movement sessions, instructions, and scores so towards the end, each one could have created/composed his own score leading to a dance - a personal performative experience. Looking into performance and the act of performing when do I perform and for whom?

There was a part of the work when each one was invited to go outside, into what was accessible and responded to our definition of nature (respecting the measures and restrictions implemented by the governing bodies). This was the moment for a personal performative experience, which then shared online and which has become a base for creating our own scores that can be transmitted to others and create a base for their dance. A little chain of gifts and scores that can start circulating and mutually inspiring people.

“This proposition stems from my research rooted in the geomorphological and tectonic reality of the territory of Slovakia. The history of its formations and geological processes this territory has been through. Geomorphology of Slovakia is fairly complex and complicated, showing a history of rich movements and events, which gave rise to the actual form of the landscape, which, indeed, is in a constant transformation. This research has been a fascinating journey in space and time, the deep time of the Earth’s history. Reshaping my understanding of matter, dimensions, processes, space and time as well as the complexity and interconnectedness of the question "what does it mean here?”. Because to answer that one, one needs to first answer the “where?” and “when?”“ - Zdenka B. Svíteková
