Magdalena Tuka, Anita Wach & DoaFW (PL): Wrestling Art Workshop

A short, intensive workshop conducted over the course of two days, these sessions were undertaken as part of Magdalena Tuka's residency at Stanica to develop her latest project 'Death of the Female Wrestler'. They were led by Magda and her DoaFW co-deviser and long-time collaborator Anita Wach.

Inspired by wrestling itself and as depicted in the arts the workshop we entered into an exploration into the sport's theatrical form.

In the first part by a rigorous physical training featuring the use of:
- Grotowski's 'Balance in Space' as preparation for contact with partner(s) in the fight situation;
- a series of choreographic moves inspired by standard wrestling holds and set pieces.

In the second part by focussing on the creation of a wrestler persona:
- through the identifiction of a 'hero' or 'villain';
- building of his/her character, appearance, story, way of preparation and entrance.

And finally, onto the actual duel situation with an opponent through composition and presentation of a short fight choreography.
