The self that changes is not the self, it is the sense of self.
 
The one who is prior to experience, who is the ground of experiencing is all but ignored untill he directly encounters himself as a rather peculiar "non-entity". He is unperceivable and yet perception is dependent upon him alone.
 
That, which appears as your story of self and identity, is never the same self twice. What you think you are is not really you. Your identity is only a concept that is itself temporary and subject to the law of liquidity.
 
There is no problem with the self-concept by itself, but it can cause problems, if we are completely identified with it because we will eventually be confronted with its impermanence.
